Online Community-based Design of Free and Open Source Software for Transgender Voice Training

This paper describes Project Spectra, a collective of open source developers that aims to build free and voice training technology for transgender people. We demonstrate how design prioritizing the agency trans users was made possible through sustained community collaboration. Using an autoethnographic approach, we discuss our community-based process, which documented with memos, online meetings text conversations, sketches, other data sources. illustrate articulated values as group: deciding programming framework (including Statement Principles), elaborating "Experience Goals" (the feelings wanted elicit), determining features implement in app. conclude reflection on benefits challenges conducting research open-source organizational model.
